REFLECTIONS

Experience:

This is my first year and first semester in Creative Media, and it is also my first time formally learning design. Therefore, many things were new to me and required me to relearn from the beginning. Typography was one of the most challenging and demanding modules for me. However, through completing each task, I was able to gradually improve my skills and knowledge. Over the 14 weeks, I learned a wide range of topics, from the history of typography to the use of Adobe applications, which contributed greatly to my progress. In addition, I realized that attention to detail is extremely important in design. During weekly feedback sessions, Mr Vinod often pointed out issues caused by small details, which could lead to mistakes or ineffective design outcomes. As a result, paying attention to details became one of my key learning points throughout the typography module. With each completed task, I not only enjoyed the learning process but also continuously improved my work, which made this module a meaningful and rewarding experience for me.

Observations:

Throughout the module, I realized how important attention to detail is in typography. Small changes in spacing, alignment, and type design can significantly affect readability and visual balance. I also became more aware that typography is not only about aesthetics but also about clarity and accessibility. Fortunately, Mr Vinod guided us in using tools to assist and measure our layouts and type designs, such as Adobe InDesign, which helped improve accuracy and consistency in our work.

Findings:

Although my designs are still at a beginner level and far from perfect, I have improved through practice and observing excellent works. Mr Vinod often emphasized the principle of “less is more,” and I have tried to develop my designs with this in mind. I found that more complex designs do not always produce better results, while simpler, minimal designs often turn out to be more effective and truly successful.
